EGM 2010 Concludes!
5 April 2010

EGM began with the arrival of members to 9 Rosemont Avenue at 7pm on 3rd April. The evening began with dinner which was prepared by one of the three teams in the cooking competition. After dinner, as usual indoor games continued till dawn next day. Day 2 began with the arrival of more members around 11am. Soon after breakfast, the second team of the cooking competition hurried to prepare lunch. After lunch, indoor games including PES started while some of the members prepared the official dinner.

The official meeting of EGM started at 6:30pm, April 4th. Meeting began with the recitation of Quran by Humaid. After that the Chairperson (Aishath Bariyya) gave the welcome speech and briefed about the finished and ongoing tasks since the election of new CC in November 2009. This includes:

a) Completed Tasks

  1. Successful purchase of 100 shares (at the rate of Mrf 400 each) from STO in January 2010.
  2. A financial assessment was carried out in order to seperate MSA money from Rosemont money.(see details below)
  3. Letters were sent to DHET regarding the problems that government scholarship students are facing. The letter was copied to related government authorities to bring the matter to their attention.

b) Ongoing Tasks

  1. Opening of a new bank account for MSA(UK) and changing the signatory of the existing account to Mr.Sodiq.
  2. MSA(UK) summer plan - the idea of a career development fair in Male' during summer 2010 was proposed by CC.
  3. Informed members that MSA(UK) is selling unclaimed items in the Rosemont shed. This decision was made in the AGM 2009 and members were informed of this in advance.

After this item, the CC and AC presented a financial assessment of MSA(UK) and 9 Rosemont Avenue. The details of the assessment can be found here.

This assessment was carried out in order to improve the way in which money is handled in MSA(UK) and Rosemont. Moreover, this assessment was essential in order to facilitate obtaining financial contribution from Ministry of Education and claiming for a commission for managing 9 Rosemont Avenue.

The assessment concluded that there is a shortage of £93.11 in the bank account in comparison with the MSA(UK) and Rosemont income and expenditure statements (Please refer to page 6 of Rosemont and MSA(UK) Financial Status Assessment 2010). Three options were proposed in the report to solve this problem and a members vote was taken for these three options as no other option was proposed by the members. The members voted to put this missing amount in the Rosemont Income and Expenditure Statement as an "error and omission". Out of the 32 members who attended the meeting, 21 members (65.6%) voted for this option.

Here are the details of the vote: (Please refer to page 6 of Rosemont and MSA(UK) Financial Status Assessment 2010)

Moreover, during the meeting a vote was taken to amend the decision made in AGM 2009 about requesting to take a commission (a percentage of the Rosemont income) by MSA(UK) for managing 9 Rosemont Avenue. All 28 attendants of the meeting during the vote voted for changing the percentage to a fixed amount of £1000 per annum. Therefore, CC will approach the government to negotiate for £1000 per annum for MSA(UK) for managing 9 Rosemont Avenue.

The CC proposed a career development fair to be held in Male' during the summer. It was opened for members' discussion. Some of the members suggested to hold a Tourism event and music shows to raise fund for MSA(UK).

The official meeting was followed by the official dinner of EGM. After the dinner indoor games and a fun-filled karaoke session continued till dawn! Next day afternoon, after a late breakfast, members went to Finchley football ground for outdoor games, while the third team of cooking competition stayed behind to prepare the lunch for the day. Later, the cooking team joined others in outdoor games. Two football matches were played and girls were given the opportunity to play in the first match. Members arrived at Rosemont after the outdoor games at around 5pm.

A late lunch was served. After the lunch EGM was ended with an unofficial closing ceremony to award the prize for the winners of the cooking competition (Razeem's team) and to thank all members who visited the EGM 2010.
