About the Maldivian Student's Association
16 April 2007

MSA meeting The Maldivian Students' Association (UK) was created by a few enthusiastic Maldivian students who were studying in the United Kingdom during the academic year 1985-86. The basic aim of this Association is to establish and further the relationship among the Maldivian students studying in the UK. We try to achieve this by organizing events that are not only enjoyable, but also desirable.

We also provide a wide range of useful information to prospective students who want to come to the UK for their studies and existing students. This information includes information about courses, scholarships, visa, other pre-arrival information, banking in UK, accommodation, food, healthcare, traveling within the UK and within the European Union, Islamic information and many other valuable information.

We also hold a Fresher's Faire at the beginning of each academic year where all new students are greeted and introduced to other students and made to feel homely. They are also given useful survival information about the student life in the UK and also show around the host city (which is normally London) in an exciting sightseeing tour.

The members also meet at least twice a year, usually during the Easter Holidays and Christmas holidays to hold the Extraordinary General Meeting and the Annual General Meeting, respectively. The EGM is mainly focused on social activities and fun games in addition to discussing other urgent MSA issues while the AGM has a more serious tone and deals with the election of a new Central Committee, discussion and voting on various issues at hand. The highlight of any such event is a string of social activities organized by the students.

All Maldivian students studying in UK, either as full-time or part-time students, are welcome to join our Association as Full Members while those who are following a UK-based correspondence course are eligible to join as Associate Members. Maldivian students elsewhere are also allowed to join as an Associate member. By becoming a member, one has the opportunity to grow a larger social circle and enhance the friendship amongst the students. The participation in the activities of the Association not only gives one the opportunity to relax and have some fun but also gives the members the chance to benefiting from each other's talents and expertise.

Students who wish to come to UK are humbly requested to contact the Central Committee or any member of MSA (UK) as soon as they have decided to come to the UK so that we can give you the utmost help right from the very beginning. We try our best to provide useful pre-arrival information, arrange someone from MSA to meet you and make sure you reach your destined accommodation safely. We will also keep in close contact with the students throughout their stay in the UK through our emails, newsletters and meetings.
