]MSA (UK) EGM - The Ice Breaker 2009 ends after 3 days of continuous, fun-filled activities! The gathering took place from 20th to 22nd February 2009 at Number 9 Rosemont Avenue and was attended by about 35 members.
The EGM began with members arriving around 1930 on 20th February 2009. An exciting bowling session was held at Hollywood Bowl. The highest score was 144 by Shaaira. Ubad and Isse (Habarey) sponsored drinks for everyone who attended. After bowling all the members enjoyed a dinner at Rosemont followed by indoor games which continued till dawn next day!
Day 2 of EGM began around 1100 with breakfast followed by a friendly football match as well as cricket at the Finchley grounds. For the first time, teams were divided by status, the “Meehunnaa indhegen ulhey meehun” vs “Meehunnaa nuindhe ulhey meehun”. The first half was played at a great pace by both teams, with “Meehunnaa indhegen ulhey meehun” taking the lead, which was cancelled out by an equalizer from “Meehunnaa nuindhe ulhey meehun”. “Meehunnaa indhegen ulhey meehun” scored another goal before half time to make it 2-1. Second half began with “Meehunnaa indhegen ulhey meehun” still on top, and they went on to score another goal to put the game beyond their opposition, or so everyone thought! With 15 minutes to go, a short water break was called, where both teams changed their tactics. “Meehunnaa nuindhe ulhey meehun” changed to a more balanced approach, which eventually paid off as they got two quick goals to equalize. With about 7 minutes to go, the search for the golden goal ended with “Meehunnaa nuindhe ulhey meehun” scoring a late winner. A great end to an exciting game! The activities continued till 1700, which was followed by a traditional Maldivian lunch of "garudhiya and baiy" later that day. Indoor games such as darts, monopoly, carrom and chess continued.
The official meeting began at 2015 with recitation of the Holy Quran. A welcome speech was given by Hawwa Shafeea Riza, Chairperson of Central Committee. Followed by a brief speech by Hassan, Member of Advisory Council. After that the following Members were elected for the vacant positions of the Central Committee and Advisory Council.
Saffana Hameed was first selected as a member of the Advisory Committee. Since she declined, Midhfa Naeem was selected as a member of the Advisory Committee as per constitution.
It was decided to elect Haleem Yousuf as a Temporary member of the Advisory Committee till Midhfa Naeem accepted her post. (Midhfa Naeem accepted her post on 26th February 2009)
After the election a discussion session was carried out on various issues the members brought up. It included amendments that need to be made to the MSA Constitution. Each member got a chance to talk on the issues brought forward. It was decided that an online discussion forum would be opened and a vote will be taken on the next AGM to make these amendments to the constitution. An official dinner was served after the meeting. Indoor games and a fun-filled karaoke session continued till dawn!
Day 3 of the EGM began a bit later than expected, due to the karaoke session. The BBQ began at approximately 1.00pm, with everyone helping out. All sorts of food were prepared by the cooking team, which included burgers, corn-on-the-cob and delicious kebab sticks. While the food was being prepared, all the members were entertained by the wonderful musical skills of Fazaal and Zain. With great dancing and free styling by the members, it was a BBQ not to be forgotten. The BBQ ended around 6.00pm. Shortly after, prizes were given to the winners of the competitions, followed by thank you speeches from members of the CC to all the members who attended.
